Smith joins MAWA contingent
SALISBURY, Md. - Taylor Smith, who wrestles out of the Juniata Wrestling Club, was a regional champion at 50 pounds in the 9-and-under age division, qualifying him for the Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association nationals.
This is his second straight year advancing to Eastern Nationals. He placed eighth last year.
Kibe delivers for the Wildcats
WILLIAMSPORT - Pennsylvania College of Technology has swept its past two doubleheaders, and Reedsville's Tanner Kibe has delivered offensively for the team.
Against Penn State Scranton, Penn College totaled 17 hits with Kibe hitting 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Against the Hazleton campus, Kibe was 2-for-3 and scored twice.
Mustang keglers earn HAC honors
MIDDLEBURG - A half dozen Midd-West bowlers and their coach were recognized by the Heartland Athletic Conference, which announced its all stars in the sport recently.
Jenna Yarger, who had the fourth-best average among girls in the league, and Beth Longer were first-team selections. Carli Delong was on the second team.
For the boys, Michael Kratzer and Chris Houtz both were second-team picks.
Coach Roger Folk was named coach of the year for the girls.
Woods sets mark in 5K for Juniata College
CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Juniata College senior and Mount Union graduate Katrina Woods earned double honors for her running this week.
After being named Landmark Conference Player of the Week, Woods earned Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Athlete of the Week.
Woods recently posted a record time in the 5,000-meter run (17:35.56), breaking the record she set last season by more than 20 seconds. This time ranks Woods 10th in all of NCAA Division III so far this season and third all-time in the Landmark.
Coaches pick District 6 all-star squad
LEWISTOWN - Boys and girls basketball coaches at the five District 6 Class AAAA schools selected all-stars for the 2013-14 season.
The girls team includes Mifflin County's Ashleigh Williams.
The coaches chose Mifflin County's Hunter Wright and Curtis Jerzerick for the boys team.
