Bob Yoder

June 21, 2013
Lewistown Sentinel

LEWISTOWN - On June 1, 2013, Bob Yoder heard that familiar phrase: "You are cleared for take-off." This flight was different from the others he had made - this took him into the arms of Jesus.

Bob was born on Aug. 23, 1933, in Allensville, to Newton and Edith Yoder.

Preceding him in death were his brothers, George, Paul, Roy and James.

Bob Yoder

He is survived by one sister, Rena Auker, of Mifflintown.

He married Faith French, who survives, on June 11, 1960. He is also survived by: two sons, Lynn Yoder, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jay Yoder, of Phoenix; one daughter, Sonya (Vern) McGee, of Grand Junction, Colo.; four grandchildren, Kevin and Garrett Yoder, both of Phoenix, Ross (Lia) McGee, of Westcliffe, Colo., and Lauren McGee, of Grand Junction, Colo.

Bob began his flying career at the age of 21. He was a charter pilot and flight instructor at Miller Wolfe Aviation in Colorado Springs. The family moved to Grand Junction in 1977, where he became a charter pilot and flight instructor for Monarch Aviation. In addition, he served as the FAA examiner for the Grand Junction area. In 1984, he became the corporate pilot for Excel Energy. He retired in 1996.

He loved to fly, hike, hunt, fish, ride motorcycles and tell stories. Bob had a passion to share the Gospel with others. This passion took him on mission trips to Kenya, Romania and Russia. He also saw opportunities in his hometown of Grand Junction, Colo., and was involved in the jail ministry at Mesa County Jail. Most currently, he was a member of Gideon International and served as a deacon at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Bob knew no stranger and always had a funny story to tell. A week prior to his death, he had his entire family with him. He, as always, was the life of the party. Wherever Bob was, there was laughter. His smile and his laugh were infectious!

A celebration of life took place on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
