LEWISTOWN - Stanley C. Rutherford, 76, of Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, died peacefully Saturday, April 27, 2013, at his home surrounded by his wife and family.

Stan was born July 12, 1936, in McVeytown, a son of the late Nelson and Alma Goldie (Moist) Rutherford.

He survived by his wife Beatrice (Baumgardner) Rutherford, whom he married Dec. 2, 1991.

Also surviving are: children, Craig A. Rutherford, of Burnham, Michael R. Milliken and wife, Sherri, of Yeagertown, Michelle L. Shade and husband, Joe, of Burnham, and Donald R. Milliken and wife, Jenny, of Lewistown; siblings, Rev. Carl Rutherford, of Selinsgrove, Gary Rutherford, of McVeytown, and Phyllis House, of McVeytown; grandchildren, Craig L. Rutherford, Karen L. Decker and husband, Matt, Scott Hays and wife, Ruth, Michael Milliken Jr., Skyler and Matthew Snyder, Madalene Rutherford, Quentin, Jordan and Camryn Milliken; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Logan Decker, Addison, Alexander and Andrew Rutherford, and Jocelyn and Madelyn Hays.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley McVey.

Stan graduated from Bratton McVeytown, Oliver High School on May 28, 1954.

After graduating, Stanley enlisted into the U.S. Navy, then he went to Penn State University, where he received his bachelor of science degree on March 23, 1963.

He then to Shippensburg State College and received his Master of Education on May 28, 1971.

He taught at Lewistown Granville Area High School and Lewistown Area High School for 33 years, retiring in June 1996. He was also the Athletic Director for 25 years.

Stan was an avid Penn State sports fan. Stan and his wife loved to travel and go to Penn State football games. He enjoyed being with his wife, children and grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Barr Funeral Home Inc., 120 Logan Street, with the Rev. Michael S. Baumgardner officiating. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the funeral home.

A private interment will be at Juniata Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice the Bridge at 126 S. Main St., Lewistown.
