To the editor:
The Juniata Valley Vegetarian Society is sponsoring again our annual Vegetarian Festival on Saturday April 6 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Mifflin County Library community room, 123 N. Wayne St., Lewistown.
At 1 p.m., George Eisman, registered dietitian and author, will make a presentation on "Food Choices for Weight Loss and Disease Prevention." Eisman has been a registered dietitian for more than 30 years and is author of "Don't Let Your Diet Add to Your Cancer Risk" and "The Most Noble Diet." Currently, he is serving as nutrition director for the Coalition for Cancer Prevention based in New York.
We will also have free vegan food, raffle and door prizes, as well as information and inspiration to make your diet healthier. Everything is free including admission.
A diet high in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans is ideal to obtain and maintain a healthy weight. Those on a plant-based diet have lower rates of many types of cancer, including prostate and colorectal cancers. Heart disease claims nearly one out of two lives in the United States. Plant foods have no cholesterol and are low in saturated fat, two major contributors to heart disease.
Please visit us on Saturday, April 6 from noon to 3 p.m. to learn how you can prevent disease and maintain a healthy weight.
