MOUNT UNION - March 15 to 17 will feature a weekend-long series of fundrasiers to support the Fab Five kids and their families in the Mount Union area.
The Fab Five, who consist of Cynthia Fagan, Wade Stains, Jazzlene Inch, Destiny Devlin and Kristy Bookwalter, are local children who are battling illness. The community is invited to join in and share their support or donate to the cause.
On Friday, local businesses, schools, offices and other workplaces are encouraged to take part in a dress down or wear pajamas in honor of Jazzy Inch, a Fab Five member who is currently undergoing treatment for leukemia. Donations will be accepted at individual business's discretion.
Later that evening from 7 to 11 p.m., 41 Mount Union Area High School students, under the direction of Nancy Corson, will host their eighth annual Rock-a-Thon with help from members of the local nonprofit organization, Planet LoveJoy. Students are accepting pledges for rocking the night away at the Bricktown Senior Center or by contacting Planet LoveJoy directly at (814) 386-3936.
On Saturday, the Mount Union Fire Department and Planet Lovejoy will host a dodgeball tournament at Mount Union Area High School. Games will begin at 10 a.m. At the event a bake sale/food stand will be held in honor of Zhane-Settlemyer, the daughter of Nick Rogers, a Mount Union resident. Admission is free and donations will be accepted at the door.
Sunday night will wrap up at Mount Union First United Methodist Church with a musical Lenten service featuring music from the local group, The Potter's Band. The service will begin at 7 p.m. A love offering will be collected during the performance and donated to the Fab Five.
Anyone who would like additional information can contact Jeremy Crouse, co-founder of Planet LoveJoy, at (814) 386-3936.
