Thank you for support of backpack program
To the editor:
Thank for providing this forum to express appreciation.
Since 2013, the Juniata County Food Pantry has offered a Summer Backpack Program to all interested and eligible students of our local school district.
Twenty lunches are provided monthly, and the program culminates with school supplies added in August. During each of these nine years, the community has generously donated to this mission by contributing food items, financial support, backpacks and school supplies.
Heartfelt thanks go to numerous anonymous donors as well as the following: Judy Hoffman, Pat Henry, Deb Yingling, Treva Seiler, John and Musiedora Pyle, Malinda Winder, JoAnne Roush, Marge Noerr, Barb Geedey, Pat and Bob Davis, William and Linda O’Brien, John and Missy Bretz, Messiah Lutheran Church, Young Ladies Bible Class of Brown’s United Methodist Church, St. John’s United Methodist Church Women, Centre Lutheran Church, Port Royal Presbyterian Church, S.H.A.R.E. Committee of Pine Grove and McAlisterville Methodist Churches, Otterbein United Methodist Church of East Salem, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Dr. Molly Kinney, President.
Gratitude is extended to volunteers, Linda Clark and Julie Hart, who managed the “Backpack Desk” and distributed food boxes every Tuesday. Special appreciation goes to Sue Lukens for her commitment to the program. Sue staffed our desk every Saturday, packed food boxes all summer, and inventoried, purchased, and organized our school supplies. And thank you to everyone at the food pantry who graciously incorporated the Summer Backpack Program into his/her regular duties.
Additionally, thank you to everyone who prayed for our program and the children it served this summer. The words, “It takes a village,” are accurate when describing the Juniata County Summer Backpack Program. Thank you to this community for enhancing our village!
