Trump has shown he doesn’t care about norms

To the editor:

What kind of fool do you have to be to think that President Donald J. Trump “understands fully that he is bound by certain rules and traditions.” What actions of this man could possibly bring you to this conclusion?

Thursday Oct. 1’s editorial puts an awful lot of faith in an untrustworthy man. This president has broken every norm or the office he holds. He has yet to release his taxes. He did not divest of his interests. He accepts foreign money. He promotes products and calls for the “cancelling” of others from the Oval Office. He tweets hatred toward fellow Americans including veterans. He uses the DOJ as his own personal legal department. He condemns our allies and praises our adversaries. He takes the word of Vladimir Putin over his own intelligence agencies. He calls the press the enemy of the people. He divides the country and is president only to those whom are loyal to him. He pardons those who lie for him and war criminals. He gives security clearances to those who don’t qualify for them. He appoints judges that are rated unqualified. Need I go on? Suffice it to say there are no “rules” or “traditions” that this man feels any obligation to follow.

As far as “fellow Republican Mitch McConnell[‘s]” word on any thing, again I say, what kind of fool do you have to be to trust anything that comes out of that man’s mouth! It isn’t even recent history, it is current events that he is acting in against his own word with regards to the SCOTUS appointment. Mitch McConnell will do whatever he needs to do to stay in power. And his statement “The winner of the Nov. 3 election will be inaugurated on Jan. 20.” should not bring anyone any comfort. When I hear those words, I hear that whatever the results of the election are on Nov. 3, that person will be inaugurated, not the person who has the most votes after all the votes are counted.

Anyone that accepts that “Trump has a propensity for making controversial statements” and does not see the pattern in these statements is either blind or willfully ignorant of reality. He lies for his benefit, cheats for his advantage, and is preparing his goon squad and militias for battle at his command. He and the Republicans are doing everything in their power to undermine the integrity of the election, pack the courts with sycophants, disenfranchise as many as possible, mobilizing the loyal, and scheming to steel this election. Only an idiot would expect that these people would behave any differently than they have in the past. They have always cheated and always will cheat.

Believe Trump when he says that the only result of this election he will accept is him winning. Or don’t, but don’t be surprised by what happens after Nov. 3.

It is a sad day in America when the president’s words are interpreted and not just heard. His supporters believe him when he says the COVID-19 will be gone by April and then by summer but don’t believe him when he projects his fascist intents. The rest of us knew COVID-19 was here to stay and know that he will act as the dictator he longs to be. Today is that sad day.
