America needs to return to its godly principles
To the editor:
There are no two ways about it. This nation needs to get back to God and to godly principles. That all men and women are created equal, and that they are endowed by their creator of all life with the right to be free and live their lives in liberty and pursuit of their happiness, as long as they do it following God’s rules. But when we stray from these rules, it does not end well.
Our founding fathers established a pretty good system of government where we the people elect representatives to see that our freedom is protecting the rights of the individual and while at the same time, the whole government runs as smoothly as possible.
We as a nation are not perfect. We are made up of imperfect people, but the system has worked well for nearly 250 years. We fought a war among ourselves to end the flaw of slavery that cast many lives and each one was an American. We fought two World Wars to keep this nation and many others free.
We have used our freedom to make many great advances for mankind, and we have become the strongest, the most generous nation the world has seen thus far. But we are in a great time of tumult at present and it is because we are getting away from godly principles.
We are heading into an election this fall when we as Americans will elect those in our government to carry on our nation’s election activities and to preserve our freedom and determine the direction we will go as a nation.
We who are Christians need to take this “job of voting” very seriously and vote for those who will take this nation in a godly direction. We have two main political parties with candidates to vote for — Republicans and Democrats. I think we need to think about what these two parties stand for.
The Democratic Party stands for taking God out of everything in government. They promote homosexuality, which God says is an abomination to him. That is why Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed.
My Bible tells me that life begins at conception, yet the Democratic Party promotes abortion on demand, which is nothing more than the murder of unborn children. This takes about 1 million lives every year. This movement was greatly pursued by Margaret Sanger who was a racist communist because she wanted to promote the destruction of “Black babies.”
There are many other reasons for Christians not to vote for a Democrat, but just these three should be enough. Even if the candidate says they do not believe in these things, I question the fact that just because they are in Congress or the Senate, they give that body more voting power in that branch of government. If they do not believe these things, they should change the party which they are associating with.
God will judge us for the way we vote. I know that there are some who will say the Democrats claim tha they want to help the poor. God is not going to give me or you credit because you are I vote for someone to take tax money from someone else to give to another person. If you or I see someone in need, we are to give to them — not take from someone else. I also say that if you give someone a handout, you may feed them for a day, but if you can build a nation with a good economy where there are plenty of jobs for everyone, you can feed people for a lifetime.
I have heard people say that they do not take God with them when they go into the voting booth. They say it is because of the separation of church and state in the Constitution. Most of them misquote and say it says freedom from religion. It actually says freedom of religion. If you are a Christian, you should be taking God with you everywhere you go and God should be part of every decision you make in life.
As I have said previously in this letter, our nation is not perfect, nor are any of its citizens. But there is coming a time when the Lord Jesus will return and he will set up his kingdom forever. The one who made all things and loved all us imperfect and sinful people so much that even while we were yet sinners, he gave his life for us to redeem us and give us a chance at eternal life in his kingdom. All we need to do is admit that we are sinners and accept the free gift and take him as our savior.
I hope and pray that people read this letter and spend more time considering the things I have said. For those of you who are already Christians, if you think I am wrong, you better spend some time with your Bible and in prayer.
For those of you who are not Christians, I pray you will do the same and make a decision for the Lord Jesus before it is too late.
