Trump doing what he accused Obama of doing

To the editor:

“Our president will start a war with Iran because he has absolutely no ability to negotiate. He’s weak and ineffectual. So the only way he’s going to get re-elected, and sure as you’re sitting there, is to start a war with Iran.” –Donald J. Trump in 2011

In 2011, private citizen Donald Trump believed President Barack Obama would use the power of the presidency for his own personal political gain, putting party over country. This explains why he keeps insisting he has done nothing wrong. He has always believed elected officials (all people for that matter) will put their own interests over the interests of the greater good regardless of any oath they may take.

It’s important to remember a few things as the shifting narratives of this administration emerge. President Obama sought and achieved a diplomatic solution with Iran. Iran was in compliance with this deal. President Trump, claiming he could negotiate a better deal, withdrew from the JCPOA. No new deal has been negotiated and current events suggest there is no deal on the horizon. Donald J. Trump has been impeached for abusing the power of his office and for obstructing Congress. He abused the power of his office for his own personal political gain. This abuse of power was at the expense of our national security and congressionally-approved taxpayer dollars.

It seems we now find ourselves in a situation where “our president will start a war with Iran because he has absolutely no ability to negotiate. He’s weak and ineffectual. So the only way he figures he’s going to (distract from his impeachment) and sure as you’re sitting there, is to start a war with Iran.”
