Citizens have right to know why Welham was let go

To the editor:

I am writing this letter in regards to the line in the “Opinion Line” in Tuesday’s May 14 Sentinel and then the article in The Sentinel on Wednesday May 15 concerning the firing of Scott Welham.

The article on Tuesday, led one to believe that Scott may have resigned or decided to retire. I thought good for Scott, but I wonder what that means for the borough, since in my opinion, he had done a great job.

Then imagine my shock to see that he was let go, apparently, without any notice, then escorted out of the building by the police.

I have lived most of my life in the Lewistown Borough. I have been a homeowner, therefore, a taxpayer for 24 years. I also never miss an election. I have known and worked with Scott for many years. I also have known Venus Shade for many years. I have served on committees for Neighborhood Watch and National Night Out with Jim Felmlee and I respect both of their opinions.

This makes me wonder what those four are up to. You can bet that they want to do something that is going to cost the taxpayers a lot of money and the other three participants didn’t agree. … I have seen a lot of improvements in the borough since Scott became manager. Apparently the author of the opinion line agrees, so why was he let go?

The borough manager works for all the citizens of the borough, not just the borough council. I think, as voting citizens, we have the right to some transparency and an explanation as to why this borough manager was let go.
