Mini golf at library was another big success

To the editor:

We putted for pages, bogeyed for books, mulliganed for magazines, chipped for computers and drove for DVDs. There was the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat and delicious food and drinks for everyone to eat. We found all the stray golf balls in the stacks, counted the money and paid the bills and when we tallied the final “score” we raised $10,260.34. Participants shouted, groaned, and laughed their way through the course. The most often asked question was, “When are you going to do this again?”

Thank you so much for the important role you played to make this fundraising effort such a success! Without you we could have never achieved what we did. Because of the generous donation of our sponsors the library is enjoying tremendous community support.

Sponsorship included title sponsors: Geisinger, Cricket at One Stop, Dr. and Mrs. Philip Quinn, and Friends of the Mifflin County Library; hole-in-One sponsor Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 711; media sponsors: The Sentinel and Lewistown Printworks; hole sponsors: Business2Business Inc., Central Insurers Group, Don Chapman, Elks Lewistown Lodge 663, J&D’s Inc., Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau, Juniata Valley Bank, Kish Bank, Kiwanis Club of Lewistown, Margy Zook, Mifflin County Savings Bank, Mike, Sara and Noah Buffington, Russler Fence Company and Women of the Moose Lewistown Chapter 212; tee and green sponsors: Boulevard Station, FNB Wealth Management, Foxpro, Law Offices of Halbruner, Hatch, and Guise LLP, Noerr International, South Side Hoagie Shop, The Square Cafe and Bakery and Valley View Rehab; Friday evening refreshment sponsors: Brookmere Winery and Vineyard, Mark Eddy, Ferguson Valley Storage, First National Bank, Greater Vision Eye Associates, Hartley’s Potato Chips, Lake Chevrolet, Law Offices of Halbruner, Hatch, and Guise LLP, Lingle Distributing, Randy and Joann Loht, Norlin Warehousing Services, Teri Smith and The EADS Group; Saturday refreshment sponsors: Bobby Rahal Toyota of Lewistown and Sheaffer Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep; raffle sponsors: Foxpro, Friends of the Mifflin County Library, Kepner’s Birdhouses, Lewistown Printworks, Mifflin County School District National Honor Society, Penn State Master Gardeners, Sharp Shopper, Seven Mountains Vinery, Mrs. Susan Miriello and Stone Arch Candle Company.

We extend our thanks to the Mifflin County High School National Honor Society students and the Mifflin County Academy of Science and Technology’s building trades students for volunteering their time to help build and tear down the course.

Arnold Palmer said, “Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated. It satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening. It is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented.”

We think golf is also a great way to form partnerships and engage the community with the library. Mark your calendar and plan to join us in March 2020 for the fourth annual Mini Golf at the Library.
