I would just like to take this opportunity to thank the gentleman from the Junction Fire Co. who paid for my bill at Sheetz on Juniata Street on Wednesday evening. It was a real nice thing … for him to do. I appreciate this very much and there are nice people out in this world who will do things for other people. Thank you.

On Monday evening, at approximately 5:30, someone, some very kind person left an unbelievably generous gift on my doorstep here in Juniata County. It was totally unexpected. I do not know who left it. I would like very much to properly thank them. It is appreciated, it is useful and it was very, very kind. If you read this and you left the gift, please contact me. Thank you.

This is for the global warming experts. It’s called weather. The Earth has been going through transitional periods its whole life. Ice over New York a half a mile thick at one time, no people here. Tropical jungles with dinosaurs, no people here. It’s a cycle. It goes up, it goes down. Cow gas puts more carbons in the atmosphere than humans do. Now they want to put gas bags on cows. Good luck with that. Just live with it and go with it. I kinda like milder winters. It means I have to pay less to the oil companies, less smog and less greenhouse gases. Maybe you oughta look at it that way.

You people that want to blame Gov. Wolf for this budget impasse need to wake up. Republicans have been fighting him tooth and nail, refusing to raise taxes on tobacco and other stuff that needs to raise money for this state. It’s the Republicans that need to go. They’re the ones that refuse to negotiate anything. And when I vote the next time, I will not vote for any Republicans. They’re hurting this state.

Fact: On Wednesday the 30th, the North Pole will see temperatures above 35 degrees for only the second time in recorded history. Average temperature for this time of year is 20 below zero. The year 2015 is the warmest year ever recorded. This December, Mifflin County has seen temperatures in the 60s and above freezing for all but a few days. The folks who deny global warming are denying the truth based on hard facts.

Vote Republican. If America fails, there’s nowhere else to go.

Thank you for including the 2016 Community Guide in (Tuesday’s) paper. It reminded me with that beautiful picture on the front of the foot bridge between Mifflintown and Mifflin how many resources this area has that should be marketed and explored for economic benefit. From Thompsontown to McVeytown, develop and increase and implement a destination marketing plan. It would bring jobs, healthier businesses, new businesses highlighting our hunting and fishing, antiquing, craftsmanship, artistic and historical resources. This is an economic engine that is not being used to the benefit of this area. It would mean prosperity. It’s a beautiful area. Thank you for the guide and the beautiful picture.

You don’t get it. Global warming is what’s causing the unusual and extreme weather – extreme droughts and flooding, severe weather around the globe. Thousands die yearly as a result of this. The oceans are warming and rising and it’s only getting worse. Educate yourselves before you joke about global warming.

Well, here we are, proabaly spent a half a trillion dollars on environmentalists and we’re getting worse storms now than we ever did. Maybe instead of looking at the environmentalists, maybe we oughta read our Bible and find out what we’re supposed to be getting and we’re getting it.

Recall Wolf. He’s gotta go, terrible for this state.

It’s amazing. All these local townships around Mifflin County aren’t having any tax increases. But yet this idiot tax-and-spend liberal Democrat down in Harrisburg, Tom Wolf, wants to raise taxes well over and above what’s needed. This guy’s gotta go. Tax-and-spend Democrats gotta go. All of them.

I would like to know how the gas can be $2.09 in Dauphin County. (In) Mifflin County it is $2.19 and it is $2.09 again in Centre County. Can’t tell me it costs that much to ship gasoline to Mifflin County, especially when you have to go through it to get to Centre County.

It’s Donald Trump or Ted Cruz, the other candidates should just drop out.

We, myself included, elected Tom Wolf to be our leader. He is not a leader. If he was, he would’ve brought the House and Senate together to get this budget problem solved in a short time.

How many people starved to death in China between 1958 and 1962 because of the policies of the Chinese Communist Party? If I told you 36 million, you’d probably call me a liar. I can see why you might.

To the person who (called) in about Donald Trump suffering from “affluenza.” I think he may be right. Not everybody does love him. But I want a president I can respect and trust. But I sure can’t trust Hillary Clinton and I sure can’t trust President Obama. So that just takes care of that mess.

We would like to thank the gentleman truck driver that paid for our breakfast down at Red’s Thursday morning. Thank you very much and God bless you.

I called in for your Saturday-Sunday edition about the five teams that played in the Top 25 – and I must’ve said one – but I meant five teams that they played, which is the same comment that the person made about Notre Dame, and, of course, it is Penn State. They played Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, Indiana and Temple, which were all in the final Top 25. Of course, in the bowl games, that could all change.

Editor’s note: Indiana is not listed in the most-recent College Football Playoff rankings. However, Northwestern, who was a Penn State opponent, is ranked No. 13. Michigan State is No. 3, Ohio State is No. 7, Michigan is No. 14 and Temple is No. 24.

I think Trump is suffering from affluenza. He claims everyone loves him – not true. I want a president I can respect and trust. His trash talk is degrading to the office of president.

I can’t believe the Sentinel and the crew of conservatives would even print the Open Line comment about gun powder and Democrats. How low can you sink at this newspaper?

Oh my God, we’re going to have a rare, full moon for Christmas. It’s the first one in nearly 40 years. I’m telling you, it’s all global warming. Or George Bush’s fault that we’re having a full moon on Christmas.

I read what the woman with epilepsy in California did to her baby, and now all I can say is I want to leave this world in the rear view mirror forever.

I would like to thank the person or persons who paid for my dinner at Bing’s Diner on Wednesday evening. May God bless you. Thank you.

For those Notre Dame fans who don’t know – there was one other team that won five games in the top 25 teams, and it’s possible that they could play six of the top 25 after the bowl games. Get your record straight.

There’s a reason the slimeball Washington Post won’t be in business within the next 10 years. It’s because of the cartoon they published of Ted Cruz. Could you imagine having Hussein Obama pictured with his little kids looking like monkeys on a chain? There would be hell to pay if that ever happened. They’re disgusting and they need to go. I don’t trust mainstream media in this country.

In Thursday’s paper someone had called in saying that they thought that people against Common Core math were not very good at math to begin with. Let’s get something straight. I am now nearly 70 years old and when I attended high school I had lots of math and had no trouble with any of it. I personally still don’t see a need for Common Core math. I think it is ridiculous.

Barack Obama gets everything he wants in the new spending bill. The new Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, is another John Boehner. The Republican Party caves in again.

The real problem with Common Core math is that you have to be creative, think and, above all, have an open mind, all of which are not strong points of a lot of Mifflin County residents.

This is also an elderly person who lives in Mifflin County. And the person who wrote in about saying the Republicans don’t want them to get property tax relief – that’s totally false. What the Republicans wanted to stop was the ability of the local school boards to raise your taxes more after they got, supposedly, money from the Wolf administration. … If you’re a property owner, elderly or young, you do not want the school board to be able to pile more taxes on you if this and when this goes through.

Thank you, Sentinel, for publishing the columns by Cal Thomas, Thomas Sowell and Michelle Malkin. Very refreshing to read factual information about pertinent subjects as opposed to the television media news slant on those items.

How terrible is it for Mifflin County about losing Pat Gardner?

I appreciate, and I wish more people would, the job our policemen are doing, especially in our area.

What a great way to start your day. I went through the drive-thru at the Electric Avenue McDonald’s this morning, and I pulled up to pay for my order to be informed the person in front of me picked up my bill. I was totally stunned. All I wanted to do was say thank you as the person pulled away. That made my day and did the only thing I knew to do and hopefully made the person behind me, their day, by picking up their bill. To the person in the Dodge truck, thank you so much for your act of kindness.

Who cares if 7×5 has three or four different ways to come to the answer? When you’re out in the world, 7×5 is 35. You don’t have time to sit and draw circles and put dots inside them and that. So, what sense does this Common Core make? Teach these kids just the regular math and everything and let them get out into the world and use that. This Common Core is a bunch of crap.

This is an elderly person that lives in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. And I’m just asking the elderly to please remember when you vote, that the House of Representatives in Harrisburg, the Republicans, do not want you to get property tax relief.

Look, it’s not the Republicans raising taxes, … it’s the Democrats that always want to raise taxes. Tax and spend, tax and spend, that’s the Democrats’ way, it’s not the democratic way.

If parents and grandparents want to get rid of Common Core, you will all need to come together and go to a school board meeting. Make your voices heard. And also make the superintendent do some of the Common Core math problems and see how well he does. It is time to remove this and take the stress off the parents and the children.

I would just like to say that the East Juniata Jazz Band, senior high and junior high chorus had a wonderful program last Sunday. In order to get both choruses on the stage, they had to borrow risers and I think it would be just as important to have these risers as the new football field.

Let’s face facts. Most of the people complaining about Common Core math didn’t do very well in basic math when they were in school either.

Good morning. I see on the local news and in our local Sentinel that everybody’s hollering about “the Muslims this” and “the Muslims that.” I have no hardship against Muslims’ religion or anybody’s religion. Now they’re hollering about Muslims staying out of the United States. They’re hollering about that. Well, how do you think the people felt back in 1941 and ’42 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and us great Americans rounded up all the Japanese-Americans and put them in internment camps until the end of the war? Think about it. Are we just like these people? I think not.

The reason I like Donald Trump is because when he says something he means it. And when the mainstream media or the Republican hierarchy comes down on him, he doesn’t back away from it. He stands by what he says. That’s what I want in my president, somebody with some backbone, not to cave to anybody at a whim.

If Friday’s caller really believes God created the fog to protect the deer from the nasty hunters, does he or she truly believe that God will provide food for the deer over the winter to keep them from dying?

If we could get a Ted Cruz-Marco Rubio ticket on the ballot and win next year, we could have eight years of Cruz as president and another eight years of Rubio as president. Could you imagine how great this country would be? Back on its feet again and all this destruction of the last eight years all behind us. And nothing but a superb future ahead of us.

Thank God for all this global warming. Look at all the fresh air we’re saving from not burning fossil fuels in our furnaces. It’s just so nice to be out and wearing a T-shirt. You don’t have to worry about snowplows and plowing your driveway out. Thank God for global warming.

I think if Donald Trump gets the nomination, I’m voting for him. After seven years of President Obama, he’d make a much better commander-in-chief and president. And as far as Hillary Clinton goes, she’s a joke. Who in the world would vote for her as commander-in-chief?

I’d suggest that the Sentinel editor accurately editorialize on Trump’s plan and open his ears before his mouth.

This is in reply to the editorial on Saturday about Trump’s plan to ban Muslims: Please print the whole sentence and not out of context. He wanted to ban them until things could be figured out as to what is going on. Now we find out that they have had stolen passport machines. These passports can now be issued to anyone in ISIS. Just look at the woman in the California shootings.

Trump wants to stop Muslims from entering the U.S. How does he plan to determine who is Muslim?

Your editorial amazed and disappointed me. Trump said he would put a hold on immigration until things got figured out. You left out a very important word: “until.”

This is to the people who took the star shower laser light projector from my lawn in McAlisterville. I only lost a small projector, but you became a thief.

This is to all the stupid people in Lewistown that does not know what the word “yield” means. Yield means stop to oncoming traffic, not just fly out of the intersection or the off ramp that they’re on just to fly out into traffic. You must stop if there’s traffic coming. They need to read their driver’s manual.

To the person who called in about the gun violence more than what the Muslim terrorists have killed, does take into the fact and adds everything into that figure: suicides, justifiable homicides, accidental shootings and police shootings. If you take those all out of the equation, that number for real violence to guns goes way, way down. Add all those together along with the gang violence and sure, that number’s gonna be high. But taking guns away from law-abiding citizens will not stop that. And he negated to go back to the towers where over 3,000 people were killed in one whack and billions and billions of dollars to take care of the damage and clean it up and take care of the survivors. So, in reality, the Muslim terrorists do present a greater threat overall.

Michael Vick is nothing but a criminal. He has the nerve to go to Harrisburg to lobby for animal rights. The animals that he harmed, that he killed or was a party to, any of that, had no rights. He should’ve never been left back in the NFL and all I have to say to end this is “Shame on him. He’s not sorry. He’s only sorry because he got caught.”

Common Core. What’s happening here? The Mifflin County School Board voted it in. Look out.

Cal Thomas’ editorial “A Churchill-esque moment” is one of the best things ever written. Certainly, one of the best things I’ve ever read.

In the past decade, terrorists have killed 38 people in America. During that same time frame, gun violence has killed over 280,000 of us. We kill each other at a rate 7,368 times that of the terrorists. Maybe the people we should be most afraid of is ourselves.

To the person who called in on the opinion line who says they fear threatening radical rednecks who keep calling the line about Muslims, how many rednecks have killed anybody in the United States? It’s Muslims who are doing the darn killing. …

It’s nothing radical what Donald Trump said about keeping Muslims out of this country for a certain period of time. It’s only common sense, which Democrats don’t have. America didn’t have anybody coming into this country from 1924 to 1965. Zero immigration on anyone. And that was all started by a Democrat, thank you.

I’d like to know where our illustrious Kerry Benninghoff stands on these taxes for the 7.25 percent that Gov. Wolf is trying to pass so we can get rid of some of these property taxes for the old people in Mifflin County.

I totally agree with the caller’s statement of the ineptness of Penn State coach James Franklin. He is to Penn State football as Obama is to our country – pitiful. I guarantee there will be some kind of coaching blunder in the bowl game.

For some politicians, it’s an amusement to be a man of honor.

What a Christmas blessing. The Senate passed a bill that the schools don’t have to teach (Common) Core math. OK, let’s go Huntingdon and Mifflin county, let’s get rid of the Core math.

Trump is stirring up the hornets’ nest. His racist remarks will only drive other Muslims to lash out against our country and join these radicals. Ninety-nine percent of Muslims in the U.S. are law-abiding, productive citizens. His remarks are causing people to look at and judge them unfairly.

I have more fear of the threatening radical rednecks who keep calling the opinion line than I have of Muslims.

First the Muslims, then the Buddhists, then the Catholics, then the Jehovahs … then the Amish, then the Jews, then you. Stop the insanity. If you must go Republican, at least go sensible Republican.

Donald Trump’s 100 percent right on the money about not letting Muslims in this country. 1. They’re the ones killing us. Even a blind person can see that. And when a mouse gets in your house, you plug the hole so it quits getting in. You plug these holes and quit letting them in the country.

Why are we teaching Common Core to the students in Mifflin County? They should be teaching them how to do cursive writing first of all. Isn’t it a shame? When Penn State wins games – “Oh, the coach is wonderful.” But boy, if they lose one or two games – “Oh, get rid of that coach, he’s no good.” Come on crybabies, grow up. You can win some and you can lose some. You’re no better than any other team when they lose.

Recently, the editorials in The Sentinel have been absolutely superb. … But today’s, Dec. 2 editorial about bridge energy technology … oh, my goodness, I don’t know why I didn’t think about that issue. I’ve been just agonizing over what’s happening to the coal industry in Pennsylvania because of the stupidity of our government. And you have hit the nail on the head. We need to declare war on this desire to destroy the coal industry and other energy sources and spend massive amounts of time and energy on funding bridge energy technologies. …

Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Milroy Dairy Queen, thank you to the young woman who paid for my sandwich. You made a dreary day into one that felt like the sun was shining. You’ll never know how much that meant to me and I feel a lot better because of your kindness. I passed it on forward to the person behind me. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and blessings.

I think President Obama should get his head out of his behind when it comes to gun control. Doesn’t he see in his own state that most of the murders are committed by gangs who obtain their guns illegally? Besides, look what gun control did over in France. It didn’t stop ISIS terrorists from obtaining automatic weapons to create terroism. Please, wake up, politicians. Gun control isn’t gonna change anything unless we take it from illegals and criminals.

I wonder if this tragedy in California will finally make Barack Obama get awake to the fact that there are Islamist jihadists who are destined to kill off Christian American people. There’s ISIS in America. When is he going to wake up and close the borders?

How many people get up in the morning and thank God for the eyesight he’s given them to see the beautiful things he’s created, the beautiful wildlife – birds – the blue sky on a sunny day and the beautiful stars and moon at night? And how many thank him for their hearing that they can hear beautiful sounds – birds singing – and then stand way back in the mountains and hear a mountain stream running down through the rocks? It sounds so beautiful. They wouldn’t have that unless God gave them their hearing.

During this time of year when we are thankful for so many blessings, I would like to say thank you to the Mifflin County Library and the very talented Molly Kinney. And I would encourage all residents to please take the time to visit your library. There is no greater gift than the gift of knowledge.

California has probably the strictest gun laws in this country and you see what good that did to help fight terrorism in this country – absolutely zero. Gun control does nothing to keep a psychotic person from wanting to kill somebody. Whether they use a gun, a knife or a car, it’s gonna happen.

Gun control means if you are on the terrorists no-fly list, you can’t buy a gun. That’s gun control. I don’t think terrorists should be allowed to buy guns. I don’t care if their Second Amendment rights are violated. I don’t know why Republicans support terrorists buying guns.

The thanksgiving and blessings was a much-needed break in the Open Line. But now it’s time to hope and pray we see another Thanksgiving. Barack Obama will not admit we are at war with radical Islamic terrorists. He’s sick. …

This is a fact. Like all the other times that things would happen, Obama speaks before he thinks, speaks before the actions are checked out and verified. He takes and turns around and has to talk about gun control. You tell me what terrorist or what gang group is going have their guns registered before they start shooting or killing somebody. This guy needs to wake up in America. These are extremists that’s out there to kill Americans. We need a president in there that’s gonna do a job. And it sure as heck is not gonna be Hillary. My God. “What difference does it make?” Well, it makes a big difference. And if it takes Donald Trump to be the next president, then it’s gonna have to be Donald Trump. But we need somebody there that’s gonna represent America so we can stand tall again. God bless America and God bless God.

If you support the NRA, then you also support selling guns to terrorists on the no-fly list. The NRA has no common sense.

It’s Dec. 1. It sure didn’t take long for the opinion line to revert back to complaining. It was very refreshing to see the thankful comments in all of November, and I sort of hoped that at least some of that could continue. But I guess not. So thank you for trying. And maybe people will think twice and call in for something that they’re thankful still for.

Tom Wolf, sign the budget. You never seen this impasse happen under Tom Corbett. Never.

Why is PennDOT wasting money having trucks out in the mornings in temperatures when it’s in the mid-40s when we don’t have a budget? It don’t make sense to me.

I’m a Republican from Pennsylvania, been a Republican all my life. I voted for Tom Wolf and I’d vote for him again, but I’m gonna tell you something. I can’t believe that the Republicans won’t get this bill passed. We want property tax relief. The old people can’t afford them. Then, as soon as you can’t afford them, they kick you out of your house. That’s the same way with medical marijuana. There’s no reason why that can’t be passed so these little kids can have a better life.

The president’s approach to Syria and ISIS is all wrong. We should take the same approach advocated and implemented by Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon in Vietnam. Follow up like Bush and Bush in Iraq and Afghanistan. If they put boots on the ground in Syria, I’m investing in a body bag manufacturing company.

The climate change conference in Paris is a gigantic scam that will result in no change to the environment, but simply an occasion for Obama to give billions in taxpayer money to poor countries.

God is not honored by a mechanical adherence to each and every regulation, but by going to the heart of them all – the ethics – and observing those as if your life is at stake, as it may well be.

I absolutely believe there’s nobody more brain dead in this world than a Democrat. And at the top of the heap sits Obama. I’m telling you, they are so out of it. They lie to your face and believe everything that’s coming out of their mouth.
