Organizations that are helping fight homelessness need our support
More than half a million people are homeless each night in the United States, according to a September report, “The State of Homelessness in America,” by President Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers.
Of those, about one third are unsheltered and two thirds are found in homeless shelters, including those operated locally.
This is not just a national issue — it’s a local issue that occurs when people find themselves in desperate situations or suffering from extreme hardship.
In this area, agencies such as Shelter Services Inc. and the Abuse Network are working hard to help those grappling with homelessness. The United Way of Mifflin-Juniata is another resource. They need and deserve the community’s support to fulfill their missions.
Today we need to remember to be thankful for the roofs over our own heads, and also for these agencies and their determined efforts to help others who might otherwise be out in the cold.
