Beulah-Mae W. Lukens
Beulah-Mae W. Lukens, 93, of Hershey, formerly of Mifflintown / Mexico, Pa., entered the Church Triumphant on Aug. 25, 2023. Beulah-Mae was born July 1, 1930 at Oakland Mills, Juniata County, Pa. She was the daughter of of the late Lewis A. Walters and Alice Campbell Walters. She was the wife of the late Richard W. Lukens. Her sister, Grace W. Ferrari, prede-ceased her in 2021. Beulah-Mae is survived by niece Bonnie Benner (Jack); two nephews, Robert Lukens (Sue), and Dennis Lukens (Sharon); cousins June Gochenour, Reg Gochenour (Deb), Jan Frey (Kirk), Jill Argie (Tim), Donna Heinbaugh, Linda Simmons (Phil); second cous-ins from North Dakota and a host of friends.
Beulah-Mae was a woman of deep faith who loved the Lord. She joined Academia Presby-terian Church as a child. When the family moved, she transferred to Mexico Presbyterian Church, Mexico, Pa., where she has been a member since 1945, but because of distance, she attended Derry Presbyterian Church, Hershey, Pa.
While at Mexico, she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, was Secretary / Treasurer of the Women’s Missionary Association, Assistant Secretary / Treasurer of the Sunday School for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Pastor Nominating Committee. She became an ordained Elder. Beulah-Mae sponsored the drilling of two wells in Africa so people did not have to walk miles for fresh water.
Beulah-Mae graduated from Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown. She is also a graduate of Penn State University having earned a BS degree. Additional education was obtained at Thompson Business College, Dixon University Center, Harrisburg.
She was involved with Meals-on-Wheels, worked with the Food Bank, and was supportive of Bethesda Mission for many years. She was a charter member of Business and Professional Women in Juniata County.
Vocationally, Beulah-Mae was employed for 37 years as Chief Clerk with the Federal Government where she reviewed files for compliance throughout the Commonwealth of PA. She received numerous Certificates of Merit and Outstanding Accomplishment. She also worked for the Commonwealth of PA in the Governor’s Office and Public Utility Commission. After retiring, she worked in sales for 10 years.
Beulah-Mae was a member of the Penn State Alumni Association, a past member of Ameri-can Association of University Women, a charter member of Business and Professional Women Organization (Juniata County), and a past member of the Hershey Horticultural Society.
For years she served on the boards of directors of United Fund of Juniata and Mifflin Counties; Mental Health / Mental Retardation for Juniata, Mifflin and Huntingdon Counties. She was a Legislative Liaison for the Literacy Program for the Juniata County Library where she was instrumental in acquiring federal funding for the Literacy Program.
Beulah-Mae served as Campaign Chair for cancer, heart and other fundraising causes, and she provided volunteer services to the Hershey Med Center Human Resources Office and ministry to prisons.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, 11 a.m., at Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 East Derry Road, Hershey. Interment will take place at Otterbein Cemetery, East Salem, Pa.
