Robert George Steele, Sr.
Robert George Steele, Sr., 91, of Lewistown, passed away at 3:23 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2023, at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Born June 26, 1932, in Saxton, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Lloyd E. and Almeda (Edwards) Steele.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by: a daughter, Kimbra Lee Steele, in infancy; two granddaughters, Tammy Dock and Margaret Aumiller; and siblings, Elsie Grace Kauffman, Dorothy Wolfe, Patricia Bingaman, and Roy Steele.
Robert is survived by: his wife, Carmen C. (Turner) Steele; five children, Bonnie Englehart and husband, Herman, of Cowan, Robert G. Steele Jr. and wife, Erin, of Milford, Ct., Daniel M. Steele, of Lewistown, Dan’Elle R. Steele, of Lewistown, and Darrell T. Steele and wife, Donna, of McClure; nine grandchildren, Robert G. III, Zachary J., and Oliver F. Steele, Candace R. Alexander, Nicole D. Hobbs, Isaiah T., Elijah E., Josiah R. and Obadiah G. Steele; great-grandchildren, Riley, Brenna and Carter Alexander; a sister, Betty Snook, of Lewistown; sister-in-law, Velma Steele, of Lewistown; and brother-in-law, Ron Bingaman, of Lewistown.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served from 1951-1955 during the Korean Conflict.
Robert was a member of Paintersville Christian and Missionary Alliance (CMA) Church.
He retired from the hammer shop at Standard Steel Corporation in 1992, with over 37 years of service.
Robert loved hunting, camping, and riding snowmobiles. He also enjoyed tinkering. He transformed several greyhound buses into campers, and alongside his son, Darrell, restored antique tractors. Robert was an animal lover and had a great respect for nature.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, at Paintersville CMA Church, 3195 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Sherman Stoltzfus officiating.
A graveside service will take place at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Aug 4, at Juniata Memorial Park, 9010 U.S. Highway 522 South, Lewistown, with military honors by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. Anyone desiring to attend should meet at the cemetery.
