Pearl I. (Trego) Narehood

Pearl I. (Trego) Narehood, 88, entered eternal rest at home on March 1, 2022. She resided on Crest Road, Winfield, with her youngest daughter, Wanda and husband, Dave Kline.

Pearl was born on Aug. 19, 1933, to the late Harry K. and Beatrice I. “Peach” (Pheasant) Trego in McClure; baptized, Jan. 12, 1935 by the late Rev. Charles E. Brodell, confirmed in Trinity, McClure Lutheran Pastoral Charge on June 22, 1947 by the late Pastor Carl E. Yost.

Pearl graduated from West Beaver Township High School, Class of 1951, McClure. There were 17 graduates in her class (orange and maroon). She served as assistant manager of the Candlebeam yearbook staff.

Pearl was the second born of the six Trego children. She grew up in McClure during the Great Depression. When Pearl was a young girl, her mother (a talented seamstress) sewed Pearl a uniform just like the women wore in the armed forces. As a teenager, Pearl’s “pride and joy” were the Cramer kids whom she babysat.

On Jan. 24, 1953, she married William R. “Bill” Narehood in Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure, by the late Rev. Carl E. Yost. Together, they raised four daughters in Beavertown. Pearl was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her girls. She, too, following in her mother’s footsteps, was a great seamstress. Early in life, Pearl worked at Standard Shirt Co., McClure. She also worked full-time at Blough-Wagner Shirt Factory in Middleburg, and retired from the former Saylor’s Shirt Factory in Beavertown.

Family was a very important part of her life. Pearl loved her family very much, always providing support. Her strong faith in God helped her make it through some exceedingly difficult times. Walking in God’s everlasting love, Pearl was a faithful member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Troxelville. At Messiah, she was involved with summer Bible School for many years, member of the ELCA Women, including knotting blankets, assisting with the funeral luncheons, helping in the kitchen with the infamous dandelion suppers (Pearl’s dressing recipe was always used by the women in preparing the dandelion meal). She and “Bill” were also greeters throughout the years at Messiah. Mild-mannered, Pearl will also be remembered for her baking; she spoiled everyone with her delectable cherry-filled cookies and she made the best lemonade from “scratch”. She enjoyed quilting and loved the quilting bees. She was always busy at her sewing machine and continually had “mending” to do for one of her daughters’ when they needed it done…even up until just a few months ago. We shall cherish her quilts she made with love for each of us. She enjoyed reading especially her daily devotions, her Bible and liked putting jigsaw puzzles together.

Pearl is survived by her four daughters and three sons-in-law; Bonnie M. and Alanson E. Johnson, Lewisburg; Noreen K. and Stephen J. Malaney, Middleburg; Vickie M. DePhillips, Sunbury; Wanda E. and David W. Kline, Winfield; grandchildren, Denae K. and husband, Jacob T. Lewis, Winfield; Crissa E. Martin, Lewisburg; Jonathan R. Hubbard, Port Orange, Fla.; six great- grandchildren and three step-great-granddaughters and her canine friend, Maverick. She was awaiting the birth of a great granddaughter due in April.

Trego, Beaver Springs; Beverly L. Heeter, Beavertown; and sisters-in-law, Roxanne A. Trego, Mifflinburg, Betty E. Hassinger, Mifflinburg and Shirley M. Special thank you to Hospice of Evangelical nurses and hospice aides for their friendship, care and kindness. At her request, Pearl will donate her body to medical research.
