Betty Fisher Parkes
Betty Fisher Parkes, 93, of rural Bellefonte, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, at Centre Care.
Betty was born on Oct. 2, 1928, in Beech Creek, a daughter of the late Willis and Ruth Lannen Wilson. She was married to Mark R. Fisher, who preceded her in death in 1967. She then married Alvin Parkes in 1972, who preceded her in death on May 7, 1989.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Lori A. (Robert) Fisher Yarger of Centre Hall; her stepchildren Earl Parkes of West Virginia, Virginia Weaver of State College, Norma (Vince) Soccio of Lewistown, Roger (Connie) Parkes of Reedsville, and Melvin (Carol) Parkes also of Reedsville. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren, 19 step great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her son-in-law John Wilson of Bellefonte, and her daughter-in-law, Robin Fisher of North Carolina. Betty was the last of her generation.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Holly Wilson, her son, Melvin Fisher, and her siblings, Goldie Kephart, Helen Pryde and Carl Wilson.
Before her retirement she had work at Bald Eagle Area High School in the cafeteria. She was a member of Brookside Wesleyan Church, she enjoyed spending time with her family and was a member of the Unionville Grange, Milesburg and Unionville senior citizens.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home and Cremation Service Inc. from 11 a.m. to noon. The funeral services will follow at noon with Pastor Robert ‘Bo’ King officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Centre County, Union Township.
