Lola Jane Bassler

Lola Jane Bassler, 97, of Thompsontown, passed away at 7:17 p.m., Thursday, July 22, 2021 at North Ridge Center Personal Care in McAlisterville.

Born on Aug. 10, 1923, in Maze, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Amey) Dunn. On Feb. 6, 1943, she married Russell L. Bassler, with whom she was blessed to share over 57 years of marriage before his passing on Dec. 14, 2000.

She is survived by her children, Robert E. Dunn and his wife Kitty of McAlisterville, Earl L. Bassler and his wife Judy of Thompsontown, Sandra J. Gilson of East Salem, Dennis L. Bassler and his wife Barbara of Thompsontown, Cheryl A. Lauver and her husband Douglas of Cocolamus, and Patricia L. Lorenz and her husband Jeff of McAlisterville; 12 grandchildren, Robin Naylor and her husband Randy, Gregory Bassler, Craig Bassler, Jill Quigley, Crystal Kessler and her husband Randy, Danelle Kline and companion Nathan Hackenberg, Richard Gilson Jr. and his wife Julie, Michael Gilson and his wife Raina, Nathan Bassler and his wife Jamie, Jordan Bassler and his wife Karena, Amanda Lauver and her companion Steve Seibert, Scott Lauver and his campanion Kimberly Colyer, Molly Lorenz and her fiance Matt Baxter, and Nicholas Lorenz and his fiance Renee Grill; 28 great grandchildren; 18 great- great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son in law, Richard Gilson Sr., one great-great-grandson, Curtis Naylor Jr.; and three brothers, Richard Dunn, Barney Dunn, and Jack Dunn, making her the last of her generation.

She was employed and retired as a seamstress for the East Salem Shirt Factory after over 30 years of service. After retirement, she proudly worked for W.E. Schlegel Inc. in Thompsontown.

Currently, she attended the Otterbein United Methodist Church in East Salem. In earlier life, she attended Whiteland E.U.B. Church and Turkey Valley United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed sewing, yard work, mowing, traveling and camping.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2021, from the East Salem United Methodist Church, 7398 Route 235, Mifflintown with Pastor David R.A. McElwee officiating. Interment will follow in the East Salem Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
