Donald E. Horner

Donald E. Horner, 94, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at the Haven.

Born, Feb. 14, 1926 in Decatur Township, he was the son of the late Clyde W. and Elsie M. (Hunt) Horner.

His wife, Ruth E. (Reynolds) Horner, whom he married June 24, 1950, resides at Valley View Terrace.

In addition to his spouse, Donald is survived by children Dawn E. Horner of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Jeffery E. Horner of Juniata County and Jo Lash and husband Ed, of State College; grandchildren Jennifer DeChene of Rockoway, N.J., T. Adam Namey of Uniontown, Ohio, and Eric Henry of Lewistown; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by sisters Bertha Goss, Anna Lehman, Alice Beam, Ruth Bridge, Esther Eslick, Bernice Begel and one brother Clyde W. Horner Jr., who was killed in 1943 while serving in the Army Air Force.

Donald graduated from Burnham High School, Class of 1944. He served in the U.S. Army as radio operator in the 28th Infantry Division, 110th Regiment Anti-Tank Company, in the European Theater from 1944-46. He retired from Standard Steel in 1982 with 32 years of service as a supervisor in the sales and marketing department.

Donald enjoyed gardening and reading. He also enjoyed traveling to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and across the U.S. to Arizona and New Mexico with his wife Ruth.

He was a member of Lewistown Lodge 203, former member of 32 degree Mason Consistory and member of St. John’s Lutteran Church where he served on council. He also served as Chief Logan School Board member from Decatur Township.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
