Emory R. ‘Dick’ Grassmyer

Emory R. “Dick” Grassmyer, 80, of Milroy, passed away at 2:58 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born Jan. 29, 1940, in Barrville, he was a son of the late William C. and Pearl May Grassmyer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Grassmyer.

Emory is survived by: wife, Carole (Headings) Grassmyer, whom he married Feb. 27, 1962; daughter, Carolyn Grassmyer, of Milroy; grandchildren, Barbara Treaster, and Steven Wolfley and companion, Jess Martin; six great-grandchildren, Jazmine, Cole, Alexis, Michael, Joseph and Ginger; siblings, Shirley Rebert, of Beaver Springs, Dorothy Snook and husband, Bud, of McClure, Eugene Grassmyer, of Lewistown, Kenneth Grassmyer, of Milroy, and Janet Reeder and husband, Randy, of South Carolina; and sister-in-law, Joyce Grassmyer.

Dick was a U.S. Army veteran. He served two tours of duty as a heavy vehicle driver from Feb. 1958 to Nov. 1960 with the 66th Transportation Company, and from March 1962 to Aug. 1965, with the 32nd Transportation Company, Europe, at the rank of Specialist Fourth Class.

He retired from Marlette Homes, Lewistown, as a carpenter.

Dick was a member of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, where he held the rank of deputy and taught hunter safety courses. He was a lifetime member of the New Lancaster Valley Volunteer Fire Company, a member of the New Lancaster Valley Volunteer Fire Police for twelve years, and an avid hunter.

A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 North Main Street, Lewistown.

A graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Salem Cemetery, New Lancaster Valley, Milroy, with Pastor Dale Benner officiating.
