Wilbur Omer Sourbeck

Wilbur Omer Sourbeck, of Lewistown, passed away at Arden Courts, Linglestown, Sunday evening June 28, 2020.

Born July, 28, 1932, to John P. and Sarah (Bottorf) Sourbeck, in Dry Valley, Lewistown, in a small house on Fryer’s Hill.

He grew up in Glenwood and graduated from Derry Township High School, Yeagertown, Class of 1950. In the summer of 1950, Omer was drafted and joined the United States Air Force where he served as a medic for 20 years, earning the rank of Master Sergeant. Omer spent the calendar year 1964 serving in the 34th TAC GP NCIOC at Bien Hoa Air Force Base, Vietnam.

Omer married his first wife, Martha Hardee Sourbeck, in 1952 and had three children, Vivian Lynn, Virginia Lois and Roger. Omer married his second wife, Patricia Nalley Sourbeck, in 1960 and they also had three children, Talitha Gayle, Timothy D. and Tracey Lee.

In 1970, Omer and his second family moved to Illinois where he spent the next 10 years, furthering his education and running his own successful construction business. In 1984, Omer moved to Grantville, where he worked as a Safety Inspector for mobile homes for HUD; U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Omer married his third wife, Susan K. Richard, in 2014.

Omer was preceded in death by his parents, John P. and Sarah Bottorf Sourbeck; a sister, Doris Sourbeck Smith; a brother, John P. Sourbeck; and a beloved son, Timothy D. Sourbeck.

He is survived by his three wives; a sister, Betty Sourbeck Bartlebaugh; a special daughter-in-law, Jean Wiesen Sourbeck Buerges and her husband, Ron; beloved grandchildren, Brian and Ashley Sourbeck; and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Omer was a very generous man and always helped those in need. He loved the United States Air Force, fishing, chess, family, friends, watching and feeding wildlife. He was a proud member of the Derry Township High School Class of 1950, Yeagertown.

Interment will be at the Maitland Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Lewistown.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
