Mrs. Polly Finkenbiner
Mrs. Polly Finkenbiner, an Elementary school teacher of 42 years was called home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2020 at the age of 77.
Mrs. Finkenbiner is survived by her husband of 51 years, Kenneth Finkenbiner; her son, Jason Finkenbiner and his wife, Laurie from McKinney, Texas; her daughter, Brooke Finkenbiner from Houston, Texas; her brother James Seibert and Jeanne Strickland from Auburn, Wash.; Vanda Seibert from Philadelphia; her three grandsons, Blake Finkenbiner, Lucas Finkenbiner, and Elliot Sherer; and several nephews and nieces. She always enjoyed having all the family together and would look forward to trips back home to Pennsylvania, as well as family reunions that her brother, Jim, often planned.
Mrs. Finkenbiner was born in Yeagertown on Aug. 22, 1942 to George and Phyllis Seibert and was baptized at St. John’s Luthern Church in Lewistown. She graduated from Shippensburg University with a degree in education and went on to take extra curriculum courses at Penn State University. She married her soulmate, Kenneth Finkenbiner, on Jan. 4, 1969. The newlyweds relocated to Texas in 1974 to pursue their careers and raise a family. On May 21, 1970 and Aug. 12, 1980, she welcomed her two beautiful children who were her pride and joys in life.
Teaching both first and second grade, the devotion to her students came naturally and her ability to master the art of teaching in a way to reach her students was remarkable. Her love for science and the creativity she displayed in the classroom made Mrs. Finkenbiner someone her students will always remember. Those who were close to her will also remember the award-deserving, sweet sourdough bread that she made. If you were lucky enough to receive a loaf, chances are you agree that it was second to none. She was the pillar to her family, loving them unconditionally, and always remained supportive. With a positive outlook on life, Mrs. Finkenbiner never complained, even after the many health challenges she was faced with in life. On hospice care for the last 3 years of her life at Hands to Lend Assisted Living, Mrs. Finkenbiner passed away peacefully. She will be loved and missed by everyone who knew her. Thank you to Tricia McKinney and the staff at Hands to Lend whom we now consider part of the family. The love, support, and care you provided to Polly did not go unnoticed. We love you.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Brookside Funeral Home (9149 Hwy 6 North Houston, TX 77095). If you would like to attend, please wear a protective safety mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
