Mary L. Kurtz
Mary L. Kurtz, 86, of 35 East Garver Drive, Belleville, passed away at 12:53 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. Born Feb. 23, 1933, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Samuel C. and Arie E. (Byler) Yoder. On Nov. 25, 1954, she married John T. Kurtz. John preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1994.
Surviving are: her children, Lois Kurtz, of Belleville; Sara Beachy, and husband, Junior, of Winfield; Ruth Peachey, and husband, David, of Reedsville; Irene Yoder, and husband, Melvin Paul, of Montezuma, GA; David Kurtz, and wife Ruthie, of Belleville; and John Arlan Kurtz, and wife Linda, of Belleville; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Hostetler, of Belleville, Beulah Kauffman, and husband, John of Reedsville, and Frances Kanagy, and husband, Leon, of Chambersburg, as well as 4 brothers, David W. Yoder, and wife, Sarah of McVeytown, Marlin “Mo” Yoder, and wife, Karen of Buhler, KS, Raymond Yoder, and wife, Nancy, of Reedsville, and John M. Yoder, and wife, Joyce of Buhler, KS; and a brother-in-law, Ben Yoder, of Elizabethville. Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews that were very special to her.
She was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, Mary Ellen Kurtz, three sisters, Mrs. Simon (Esther) Peachey, Mrs. Ben (Elsie) Yoder, and Mrs. David (Arlene) Spicher and a brother, Samuel L. “Sonny” Yoder, and his wife, Ruth Yoder.
Mary was a member of Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church in Belleville. She enjoyed cooking, canning and spending time with her family and friends. In her last days, she also enjoyed coloring.
Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020 at Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church in Belleville with Ministers DJ Peachey, Loren Yoder, Daryl Peachey, and David Byler officiating. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020 at Pleasant View Church.
