Lenten events held across Juniata Valley

St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church
Weekly Lenten services will be held at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Licking Creek at 7 p.m. each Wednesday until April 1.
Port Royal Men’s Lenten breakfast
PORT ROYAL –Port Royal Men’s Lenten Breakfast will beet at 7 a.m. each Saturday in the Port Royal Community Building on 4th Street, Port Royal. The speakers will be as follows:
¯March 21 — Al Ream, Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church
¯March 29 — The Rev. Jeffrey Henry, Lighthouse Community Church
¯April 4 — George Zimmerman, retired pastor
¯April 11 — The Rev. Terry Brosius, Port Royal Methodist Church
McAlisterville Ministerium
McALISTERVILLE — The McAlisterville Ministerium will host the 2020 Lenten Series, “Clashing Attitudes: a Study on the Beatitudes.”
The following services will be held at 7 p.m.:
¯March 22 — Kevin Brophy will speak at Lost Creek Mennonite Church.
¯March 29 — Erin Bovendam will speak at Lost Creek Presbyterian on Pure in Heart.
¯April 5 — Dave Gingrich will speak at McAlisterville United Methodist Church about Peacemakers.
¯April 10 — Dave McElwee will speak at Free Spring Church of the Brethren on the Persecuted.
This year the offerings collected will be divided between a local and a world mission. The local mission is Juniata County Golden Years Ministry. This supports Gary Krabill who serves as a chaplain to residents in our county nursing homes who do not have a pastor/church connection. The other half will go through denominational ministries helping Puerto Rico recover from hurricane and earth quake damage. Checks can be made out to the McAlisterville Ministerium.
Church to host Lenten seminars
LEWISTOWN –St. John’s Lutheran Church will host Hands of the Savior Lenten seminars at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays during Lent.
Each seminar will include a short teaching, videos, discussion related to teaching and current societal issues and Ask the Pastor.
The 2020 theme is Vocation. Discussion will be as follows:
March 24 — What about purpose/principles?
March 31 — How do we live it?
Port Royal Community Lenten teas
PORT ROYAL — Port Royal Community Lenten teas will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesdays at the Port Royal Presbyterian Church, at the corner of 4th and Main streets. The theme will be “Fearless and Spiritually Gifted Women of God.” Speakers are as follows:
¯March 31 — Pastor Rick Adams on “Mary of Bethany”
¯April 7 — Glen D. “Skip” Kepner on “Mary, Mother of Jesus” with communion by Pastor Crystal Lyde
Lewistown Ministerium
LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Ministerium will host devotional services and luncheons at 11 a.m. Wednesdays during Lent.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church
PORT ROYAL –A “Let go for Lent” fundraising auction with soup and sandwich sale will be held on Saturday, April 4 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, state Route 35 S., Nook.
Doors open at 11 a.m. and the auction will be at 1 p.m.
The event will be held downstairs in the social room. Use lower side handicap ramp entrance. Check the church’s Facebook page for auction items.
