BMS welcomes new superintendent

BELLEVILLE — Belleville Mennonite School welcomed Dr. Michael Giglio as its new superintendent.

According to a news release from the school, he brings with him many ideas to add value to its pre-kindergarten through 12th grade program.

Now an ordained minister, Giglio was once an atheist who mocked classmates who daily brought their Bibles to his Piscataway, New Jersey High School, the news release says.

On a visit out west, he met two University of California professors who believed in Adam and Eve as real people – just as real as Washington and Lincoln. One asked him, “Is it intellectually honest to mock a book that you have never read?” Finally coming to Christ and passionately wanting to make Him known, Giglio served eight years in the Dominican Republic and seven years in Colombia, South America, as a missionary. He has traveled to Cuba 44 times to develop pastors and train teachers. He also traveled to Guatemala, Honduras, and Paraguay to train teachers for certification with the Association of Christian Schools International.

Giglio enjoys reading about the Civil War, World War II, Vietnam, the Civil Rights Movement, education, theology, and business. He particularly enjoys “historical touring,” visiting places like Jamestown, Plymouth, Harpers Ferry, Monticello, Mount Vernon, Lexington, and Concord. Few Americans can say that they have been to the gravesite of George Whitefield, the famed preacher of the Great Awakening, located in the cellar of the First Presbyterian Church of Newburyport, Massachusetts. Giglio has been there, and also to Robert E. Lee’s gravesite in Lexington, Virginia. A life-long learner, Giglio enjoys finding such historical places, even cemeteries.

He has been married for 38 years, and also enjoys visits to his three children and four grandchildren in Easton, Virginia and Illinois.

Belleville Mennonite School seeks to integrate faith development with a quality academic program in a safe environment for Pre-Kindergarten- Grade 12. Enrollment is open to all families regardless of race, church affiliation or color. For more information, call (717) 935-2184 or visit www.bmsprek12.org.
