LEWISTOWN — Firefighters from the Lewistown Fire Department were called to a house fire at 409 W. Fourth St. around 9:49 a.m. Monday.

According to Lewistown Fire Department District Chief Patrick Shoop Jr., fire and smoke were showing from the residence when he arrived on scene.

Because of the conditions, reduced daytime staffing and weather concerns, Shoop said he requested additional resources almost immediately.

Firefighters took about two hours to bring the fire under control.

West Fourth Street was closed from Bratton Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue during the incident, which cleared around 1 p.m.

Shoop said the family and their dog, who were home at the time, escaped without injury. Three firefighters were evaluated at the scene for injuries sustained while battling the fire.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist the displaced residents, and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal’s Office from the Lewistown barracks was called to investigate the cause of the fire.

Assisting the Lewistown Fire Department were Reedsville Fire Co., Junction Fire Co., Granville Fire Co., West Granville Fire Co., Chief Logan Fire Co., FAME EMS and local fire police.

Starting at $2.99/week.
