Potential sewer rate increase discussed

LEWISTOWN — The Derry Township Board of Supervisors discussed the sewer authority recommendation to increase sewer rental rates during their meeting on Tuesday.

Supervisors received correspondence from the Derry Township Sewer Authority which conducted a rate study.

The authority recommended that supervisors increase the 2026 sewer rate by 20% bringing the residential rate from $132 to $159 per quarter, the commercial rate from $12.50 to $15 per thousand gallons of water per quarter, and the vacancy rate from $85 to $105 per quarter.

“There has been an increase in the sewer treatment cost and utility cost,” Chairman Ronald Napikoski said.

Napikoski said that the sewer authority stated in its bill that maintenance costs increased by 58% over the last five years and that sewer rates have not increased since 2013.

“I do recommend we ask sewer authority to make it incremental increase and not these larger increases at one time, but I do approve of their recommendation,” Napikoski said.

In other news, Supervisors have officially executed their agreement with Harris Golf Miniature Golf Courses, Inc. for $417,980 for the new golf course at Kishacoquillas Park.

Supervisors agreed to use $9,029 of their 2025 county aid for three projects related to maintenance issues and updates.

Supervisors also appointed Donald Warntz as the director of the FAME EMS Board for 2026 and 2027.

Starting at $2.99/week.
