LEWISTOWN — Shining Light Through the Darkness will host its 18th annual light display at Kishacoquillas Park in Lewistown starting Saturday, Dec. 6, spreading holiday cheer through countless hours of volunteer work to set up the event.

Volunteers decorate the park’s paths, baseball fields and pavilions for attendees to enjoy free of charge.

Starting Dec. 6, attendees can explore the light displays every evening from 5 to 9 p.m., weather permitting, through Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.

Nightly entertainment will be available during the light display’s operation.

According to the organization’s website, since its inception in 2007, the event has grown to include a heated Sweet Shop, which serves hot chocolate, hot dogs, chips and baked goods free of charge.

Attendees can also enjoy a heated train and mini-village room, a six-seat limousine golf cart for those unable to walk the paths and much more.

“The last few seasons’ events brought over 15,000 attendees,” said Darla Rickert, Shining Light Through the Darkness chairperson.

In addition to being an all-volunteer event, Shining Light Through the Darkness is also funded 100% through donations.

The Shining Light Through the Darkness committee works to find organizations, businesses and individuals to sponsor displays and portions of the event to limit expenses.

These sponsors help cover operating costs including renting the park, storage of lights and displays, food, upgrades and updates to the lights and displays, among other expenses.

Shining Light Through the Darkness seeks volunteers on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Dec. 6.
