LEWISTOWN — The Junction Fire Company needs a new squad truck to assist ambulance calls, aid with brush fires and carry personnel, a representative told Granville Township supervisors Monday.
Patrick Pauly, vice president of the Junction Fire Company, asked to move $125,000 from the 1% apparatus tax account to pay for the truck.
This tax account is to be used for the purchase of new fire vehicles for the Granville Township fire companies, Pauly said.
“Our current truck has high mileage — is quite worn out and we need to replace it,” Pauly told supervisors. “This particular vehicle is one of three; they did have four until a recent crash in March left it undrivable.”
The vehicle would need to be purchased in three separate components — the cab and chassis would be purchased from the Lake Dealerships in Lewistown, the utility body would be purchased from DK Hostetler in Reedsville and the skid unit which includes the pump and water tank will be built and shipped from Florida.
Pauly said he received quotes from all three companies, but the price is not guaranteed after a certain amount of time.
Supervisors decided they would take the month to look into the finances and make a decision at the board’s December meeting.
During public comment, the soon-to-be newly elected supervisor, Terry Stewart was in attendance to voice his concerns for the public.
Stewart said many citizens would like to attend Granville Township meetings – which are generally held at 10 a.m. on the first Monday of the month — but often cannot due to work and scheduling conflicts.
Stewart suggested that supervisors consider switching to evening meetings to allow for more community attendance.
Supervisors agreed to consider the suggestion.
In other news, supervisors approved of the department reports for October including the account summary, road report, police report, code officer report, sewer department report as well as the overtime report for the third quarter of September.
Supervisors also approved of the tentative 2026 budget which will be on display at the Granville Township municipal office as well as its website.
