Borough to advertise ordinance changes
LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Borough Council met Monday to discuss fire department and vehicles and traffic ordinance changes in addition to other business.
Borough Council Vice President Robert Barlett and Borough Manager Tyler Fink shared that the Borough’s law and ordinance committee decided to add wording changes to the Borough Fire Department Ordinance of 2013.
In the Chapter 24 in Administrative Legislation under part 11 titled “Criminal background checks required” the law and ordinance committee added that the chief of the fire department, the deputy chief and assistant chiefs and all response members of the fire departments, as well as all special fire police, will be required to undergo a criminal background check looking to ensure applicants are not sexual offenders and do not appear in the registry required under Megan’s law.
Applicants to the Lewistown Fire Department are currently required to undergo a criminal background check and can not have any felonies on record.
The Borough Council approved to advertise this ordinance change in a roll call vote with Larry Searer absent.
Council members will later vote to approve the ordinance following advertisement.
The Borough then approved to advertise wording changes to Chapter 233 in Administrative Legislation under part 41 regarding on street metered parking times and charges.
Council will advertise Market Street parking costs as $0.50 per hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a two hour maximum parking time. Members will vote on this ordinance change following its advertisement.
