Reedsville Post Office closed after discovery of asbestos
REEDSVILLE — The United States Post Office in Reedsville is closed effective today, due to the discovery of asbestos in the structure.
Postal service for Reedsville customers has been temporarily assigned to the Lewistown and Yeagertown facilities.
Mail delivery for Reedsville will be handled through the Lewistown facility and distributed directly to Reedsville postal carriers.
Window service, including post office boxes, for Reedsville, will be provided by the Yeagertown facility.
The temporary change is expected to last for at least the next month.
“The discovery of asbestos was made weeks or possibly months ago and there was communication between the post office and the building landlord,” Lewistown Post Office Supervisor Russell Fry said. “We are now in a position to rectify the problem. Starting today, mail delivery will be out of the Lewistown Post Office and window service will be out of the Yeagertown Post Office. This process should take between four and six weeks.”
