Susquehanna to host Honors Band Festival and concert

SELINSGROVE–Susquehanna University’s Honors Band Festival will culminate with a finale concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, in Weber Chapel Auditorium.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Honors Band, under the direction of Brett Hosterman ’06, adjunct member of the music faculty, will perform pieces by notable modern composers, including “Sogno di Volare” by Christopher Tin and an arrangement of “Amazing Grace” by Frank Ticheli.

Following this performance, the Honors Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Eric Hinton, director of bands and chair of the university’s music department, will perform a similar repertoire that includes Paul Murtha’s “Frederick’s Black Devils” and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “English Folk Song Suite.” Both ensembles will then combine to perform Percy Grainger’s “Irish Tune from County Derry” and E.E. Bagley’s “National Emblem March.”

This concert is the capstone for the university’s 32nd annual Honors Band Festival, held Feb. 14-16, during which the campus will host 115 skilled high school students from Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and Nevada. Participating students will attend a faculty recital and performances by the University Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble.

Starting at $2.99/week.
