Derry Township officials announce project update
Local soccer field to receive new fencing
LEWISTOWN — Derry Township officials at their Monday meeting announced that the soccer field located next to the Derry Township building along Ferguson Valley Road will receive new fencing provided by the Mifflin County School District. Officials also discussed other business inlcuding ongoing projects.
The fencing at the soccer field in Derry Township is recycled wire fencing that was torn down during updates and is currently being reused.
“The quote is for the installation fees and posts for the fencing,” said Justin Allen, roadmaster for Derry Township.
Allen handed officials three quotes from different landscaping companies. After officials looked over the quotes, they decided to approve a quote from the Russler Fencing Company.
“This was already in their budget for the year,” added Kelly Shutes.
During the new business portion of the officials’ meeting, they approved donating 10 mini-golf passes for the National Night Out to be held in 2026.
This action brought about a discussion about whether the Kish Park mini golf course project would be completed in the summer of 2025.
Officials hope to open the mini-golf course by August.
Kelly Shutes shared that township officials await engineering plans to be submitted as well as a cost proposal.
Township officials then approved to purchase of a Mentzer trailer for the Kish Park project for $4,299.
Kelly Shutes, township manager, added that this trailer expense was already in the official budget.
“This will be used to transport tractors and other equipment needed to take care of the park,”
added Allen.

• Approved no-parking signs in the event of snow in the cul-de-sacs in the area of Blossom Hill;
• Approved a financial security release for the Mifflin County Academy of Science and Technology for a Land Development Agreement;
