Popular Snowfest slated for Greenwood Furnace

HUNTINGDON — Don’t let chilly temperatures keep you away from the winter fun at Greenwood Furnace State Park’s annual Snowfest.

On Saturday, park officials have planned a variety of activities from noon to 3 p.m. to welcome fair-weather fans to the outdoor event. This year’s lineup at the state park, located at 15795 Greenwood Road, Huntingdon, includes:

•Bike demos by Rothrock Outfitters from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

•5-Miler Run at 1 p.m.

•Bonfire on the Beach at 1 p.m.

•Music by Matt Marsden from 1 to 3 p.m.

•Smokey the Bear at 2 p.m.

•14th Annual Juniata Valley YMCA Polar Plunge at 2:30 p.m.

“Stop by Pavilion No. 4 to join in on fun activities before heading to the plunge,” said Jen Moore, environmental education specialist for Greenwood Furnace State Park.

“All educational activities will be held outdoors this year,” Moore added. “If you need to warm-up, visit the warming hut or the concession stand for some hot soup and drinks.”

There will also be food available from the beach concession stand and Sinister Mini Donuts.

Moore has seen the event’s popular grow by leaps and bounds.

“Attendance and number of activities has grown over the years,” Moore explained. “Last year, we had 600 in attendance with five to seven educational activities being offered.”

There will also be continuous outdoor activities with animal furs, blacksmith demonstrations, winter games, backyard feeder birds and more. The Visitor Center and Gift Shop will also be open.

Admission to the event is free and all ages are welcome to attend.
