Granville man arrested after trying to purchase firearm with false information

LEWISTOWN — Andrew M. Alspaugh, 23, of Granville, was arrested by Lewistown Police Department officers after attempting to purchase a firearm at the Dan Pierce Outdoor Shop in Lewistown and providing false information on an application, according to a release issued on Thursday. At 7:23 a.m. on Jan. 22., officers received a request from the Pennsylvania State Police Firearms Division to investigate an individual who attempted to purchase a firearm, the report said. Alspaugh had previously attempted to purchase a firearm at the shop, police said, and provided false information on an application during an attempt to purchase a firearm. Alspaugh was prohibited from possessing a firearm, the report said. A warrant for his arrest was issued, charging him with sale or transfer of firearm-material false statement and unsworn falsification to authorities, police said. Alspaugh surrendered himself to the Lewistown Police Department without incident and was transported to the Mifflin County Correctional Facility to be arraigned by the on-call magisterial district judge, police said.

Lewistown man charged with vandalism after episode at jail

LEWISTOWN — Charges are pending against Shaun Mellott, 21, of Lewistown, after he punched a light fixture at the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Thursday. Officers responded to the jail where Mellott, an inmate, was upset about not getting a book, police said. The report said Mellott wrapped his hand with a piece of cloth and damaged the light by punching it. Charges are pending an estimate of the damages, police said.

Lewistown woman charged with assault and harassment

LEWISTOWN — Shaenah T. Furman, 26, of Lewistown, was charged with simple assault and harassment after being involved in a domestic dispute at 6:22 a.m. on Jan. 23, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Thursday. Officers responded to 300 Howard Ave. in Lewistown where they learned Furman had allegedly punched another person in the mouth with a closed fist, the report said. Furman had a small cut on her knuckles and the other subject’s lip was bleeding, leading to the charges, police said.

Yeagertown woman charged with drug possession

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers were monitoring the intersection next to the Lewistown Intermediate School on Green Avenue when they conducted a traffic stop for an expired inspection sticker at 8:21 a.m. on Jan. 23, according to a release issued on Thursday. The vehicle had an odor of marijuana and the driver, Megan Ruby, 28, of Yeagertown, admitted to possessing a marijuana cigarette. Officers searched the vehicle and located non-prescribed prescription medication as well as marijuana paraphernalia, police said. Officers conducted field sobriety tests to determine whether Ruby was impaired, but she did not show signs of impairment, police said. Ruby was charged with drug possession, drug paraphernalia possession, no insurance and no inspection, the report said.

Lewistown woman charged for drug possession, disorderly conduct

LEWISTOWN — Cheryl Reed, 64, of Lewistown, was charged with marijuana and drug possession as well as disorderly conduct after Lewistown Police Department officers responded to the 300 block of Bratton Avenue at 9:31 a.m. on Jan. 23, according to a release issued on Thursday. Reed was causing a disturbance by knocking on a neighbor’s door, police said. Reed was hysterically yelling which prompted a call to the 911 center regarding the disturbance after officers were already on scene, police said. Officers also said they found her in possession of a mason jar containing marijuana as well as marijuana vape cartridges.
