Sober New Year party slated Dec. 31

LEWISTOWN — With the New Year right around the corner it can be hard for someone struggling with sobriety.

That’s why the volunteers at the Dream Center decided to host a sober living New Year’s Eve party from 8 p.m. to midnight on Dec. 31.

This event is free for people in recovery of all ages and their families.

“This all started with the 1st Overdose Awareness Event we had on July 8, 2023. That is the main event we have annually,” said Cheryl Dews, executive assistant and head of the fundraising committee.

“The idea came from understanding how hard it is to celebrate New Year’s in a safe environment, free from substances and other hazards. Knowing that many places that host celebrations often have alcoholic beverages, desserts, and sometimes even drugs,” added Dews.

“There will be music, food, games, prizes, and a countdown to 2025, all in a supportive and caring environment,” said Dews.

The Dream Center will serve traditional pork and sauerkraut, BBQ sandwiches, homemade mac and cheese, cowboy baked beans, deviled eggs, and more.

A variety of games will be available to play throughout the night with gag gifts for prizes.

The Dream Center provides Christian-based charity, discipleship, plus community development programs consistent with Christian principles and family values that address opportunities relating to addiction, trauma, incarceration, homelessness, unemployment, food insecurity, and parenting skills.

“Our ultimate goal is to help restore hope and rebuild lives of the hurting in our community and that’s why my number is actually listed as the Dream Center number. That way if someone needs help they can always get a hold of someone who understands what they’re going through and can fight to get them the help they need. God saved my life so that I can help others,” said Dews.

Starting at $2.99/week.
