McVeytown man has knack for spreading holiday cheer

LEWISTOWN — As the winter chill settles in and twinkling lights adorn the streets, there’s a palpable sense of excitement in the air.
Christmas, with its timeless traditions and heartwarming moments, has long been a source of inspiration for volunteers in the community.
Jeannie McCartle, of McVeytown, felt blessed when she received a special gift from a holiday angel during her breast cancer care. That experience left quite an impression on son Dylan, and he longed to find a way to give back to others in a similar fashion, too.
As a result, Dylan came up with the idea to make homemade gift bundles for cancer patients at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. After putting the finishing touches on the gift bundles, Dylan gathered these gifts together and delivered them to the hospital.
He certainly won’t be confused with roly-poly Saint Nick, although Dylan was wearing a red shirt on this particular day while distributing gifts for the patients. They were all eager recipients; there weren’t any on Santa Claus’ nice or naughty lists. At least, not as far as Dylan was concerned.
“I like to see the smiles on the faces of our patients,” explained Dylan of seeing their faces light up when they are handed a gift. “Especially during the holiday season.”
This holiday season, they’re back at it again – Dylan delivered these gift bags to the hematology/oncology clinic at the hospital, along with his mom.
Registered Nurse Megan Tate received the gifts and was busy handing them out, like one of Santa Claus’ dedicated elves. Dylan does this unique gift-giving because he desires to bring smiles to the faces of our patients, especially during the holiday season.”
As a volunteer at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital, Dylan certainly spread some holiday cheer by gathering gift bundles together and donating them to patients and staff.
“We’re so thankful that Dylan and Jeannie remember our patients, especially during the Christmas and holiday season.” said Stacey Osborne, vice president and chief nursing officer. “Their kindness and generosity embody the spirit of the Christmas Season and reflect the hearts of all our wonderful teams who serve our patients and communities every day. We’re grateful for you Dylan and Jeannie.”
This marked Dylan’s third year of serving as a volunteer; Jeannie, is a breast cancer patient.
In this winter wonderland, hearts grow light for his efforts. Christmas joy spreads all around, as Dylan’s efforts make for a perfect holiday. Especially to those who can’t be home with loved ones.
