$4.5M in community donations go to sports complex project

LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Stadium Committee was joined by donors and community members in the unveiling of its final fundraising total at a press conference, Monday night.

“I’m very thankful today, on this momentous occasion, to be able to look at everyone here and the transformed multipurpose athletic facilities right in front of us,” expressed Co-chairman Joel Diamond. “This is truly a generational project for all of Mifflin County.”

Numerous donors were in attendance at the press conference, coming together to see the developments on the Donald M. Chapman III Stadium.

The final fundraising tally was reached by the giving of nearly 350 people who purchased bricks and over 100 people who will have a bronze plaque on the donor board, which represents giving between $1,000 and $1 million.

The final fundraising total for the athletic complex was $4,522,477, putting the committee at their goal of $4.5 million.

Walker said that if “just one new young person decides to participate because they want to compete on one of these great venues and has a tremendous impact of a coach that can make a positive change in a direction of their lives”, then he considers his investments returned.

“I’ve always felt there are three great categories of people to support, your family, your community, and young people,” shared donor Kevin Walker. “This project, from my perspective, supports all three.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
