Text message scam under investigation

McCLURE — Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown are investigating after a man received a text message asking for $3,000 or else family members would be harmed.

Police said the victim, a 65-year-old McClure man received the threatening text message on Nov. 6. Police said the message asked for “$3,000 or else harm will come to their family.”

Police say they believe these are mass-produced messages sent out in an attempt to receive money from frightened victims.

If someone receives a similar message, it is most likely spam. Victims should report said messages to law enforcement.
