Bazaars, Christmas in Park top list

Hold on for a wild ride, the holidays have officially arrived. Tom Turkey just left and Old Saint Nick is only weeks away for coming to town. Here are five things to check out this weekend:

Black Friday Bazaar

The Dream Center of Mifflin County, 204 First Ave., Burnham, hosts a Black Friday Bazaar today from 4 to 9 p.m. Shoppers will find custom-made gifts, basket raffle, kids corner with crafts and goodies and more. Those who might be hungry can enjoy homemade sweet treats and pies or make a stop at the hot chocolate bar. Looking for something a little savory? Check out the chili and cornbread.

Holiday festivities

• 23rd Annual Christmas in the Park, sponsored by the Richfield Lions Club, takes over Basom Park, 6972 Heister Valley Road, Richfield, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. More than 100 vendors will be selling their waves and giving shoppers the perfect opportunity to work on their holiday shopping. There will also be fresh wreaths, quilts and much more. Additionally, there will be live entertainment, delicious food and Santa arriving at noon. Find more information their Facebook page.

• McAlisterville Christmas Tree Lighting, 4 p.m. Sunday, Lost Creek Community Park, Main Street, McAlisterville.

Holiday fundraisers

• Community Cares 5 Dollar Fund kicks off the holiday season with its second annual old-fashioned community Christmas event on Sunday at the Port Royal Community Building, 212 N. Fourth St., Port Royal, from 3 to 6 p.m. Attendees will find crafts and games for the kids: make reindeer food, decorate an ornament, snowball fights and games with Santa Bear. Visit and take a photo with Santa from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Story time with Santa with the reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas will be at 5:45 p.m. Enjoy hot dogs, chips, water, juice, hot cocoa and cookies. Cost is $5 per family. Donation bins will be set up to benefit local families for the upcoming winter and home heating needs. For more information, visit www.communitycares5.org.

• Cash bingo, hosted by Helping Hands of Juniata County, will be held at the Mifflintown Fire Hall, 510 Washington Ave., Mifflintown, on Sunday. Doors open at 12 p.m. and bingo starts at 1 p.m. Twenty games will be played including jackpots: $50 regular games, a $250 mini jackpot and a $500 big jackpot. Special games, 50/50 and other raffles, rip tickets and door prizes. The kitchen will also be open. Tickets cost $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Proceeds benefit Helping Hands of Juniata County.

Pet photos with Santa

Rescue Our Furry Friends (ROFF) photos with Santa Claus will be offered from 12 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Dixie’s Grooming Salon, 8 Applewood Drive, Reedsville. Come get photos of a furry friend with the big man in red. All photos will be sent via email after the event in high-quality resolution. Pet owners can also be in the picture. Photos of cats will be taken from 12 to 1 p.m. and dogs will follow from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. No reservations required. The cost is $20 for pets only and $30 for pets and people. Proceeds benefit ROFF.
