LEWISTOWN — Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital recently began making improvements to the small town hospital’s sleep lab at a projected cost of $5.1 million.

“Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital is constructing a new sleep lab on the second floor of the hospital that will expand our capacity to better serve our patients,” explained AJ Hartsock, associate vice president of Operations at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Work on the sleep lab began in October 2024 and renovations are expected to continue throughout 2025.

According to Hartsock, the sleep lab will be increased to include five beds which will “provide for increased access to (our) patients and the ability to schedule sleep studies in a timely manner.”

The project entails the construction of a new sleep lab, converting the old sleep lab into new inpatient rooms, construction to include additional inpatient rooms on the sixth floor, and renovations to existing patient rooms on the third and fourth floors.

Hartsock said Geisinger takes great pride in the care they provide to Mifflin County and surrounding communities. The Geisinger-Lewistown location has been a lifeline in this community offering “high-quality, patient-centered care.”

“These projects are crucial as we continue to see the number of our inpatients increase each year. We’re grateful to be able to upgrade our facility in order to accommodate this growth and meet the ever-growing healthcare needs of our community,” explained Hartsock.
