YEAGERTOWN — A pickup truck caught fire Thursday afternoon in front of the Quality Inn & Suites at 13015 Ferguson Valley Road in Burnham.

According to the Yeagertown Fire Company Assistant Chief Justin Fultz, the fire completely engulfed the engine compartment and pushed into the cab area when Yeagertown Fire Department arrived on scene.

The truck, a 2002 Dodge 1500 crew cab driven by 37-year-old Bradley Bedlyon, was in flames when Bedlyon arrived at the Sunoco station to purchase fuel for his lawn mower, according to Mifflin County Regional Police.

The gas station attendant immediately responded and advised Bedlyon to move the truck away from the gas pumps, police said.

Granville off-duty fire Capt. Kelby French was first on scene and attacked the flames with equipment from the Sunoco station.

Although the truck initially pulled into the Sunoco parking lot in front of the fueling island, the vehicle was far enough away from the gas pumps as not to cause any extra damage to that area.

According to fire officials, the vehicle was totaled but there were no injuries sustained because the driver exited the vehicle before the flames reached the cab area.

The Burnham Fire Department and FAME EMS were also on scene to provide assistance.

The cause of fire is still undetermined and the Mifflin County Regional Police Department is handling the investigation.

Starting at $2.99/week.
