Man charged with attempted homicide in road rage incident

DUNCANNON — Police have arrested and charged a Perry County man with attempted homicide and other charges related to what police termed a road rage incident Tuesday morning.

Pennsylvania State Police Newport said 30-year-old Ashton Cody Taylor, of New Bloomfield, shot his handgun at an 18-year-old Newport man who was passing Taylor’s vehicle at approximately 6:15 a.m. Tuesday on state Route 849 near its intersection with Paradise Road in Wheatfield Township, Perry County.

Police said the bullet fired from Taylor’s gun passed through the passenger door of the Newport man’s vehicle, grazed the rear of the driver’s seat and embedded in the driver’s side B-pillar, directly behind where the other driver was sitting.

Taylor is charged with one count of attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of recklessly endangering another person and one count of simple assault.

He is currently lodged in the Perry County Prison, unable to post the $25,000 bail set. A preliminary hearing for Taylor is scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 22 before Magisterial District Judge Elizabeth R. Frownfelter.
