Books are Christmas decoration theme
LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Garden Club is again hosting a Christmas decorating event for Lewistown Borough residents.
This year’s theme is “A Literary Christmas.” Participants are to select any Christmas book for their decorating inspiration.
Photography of Christmas displays will take place beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 8, and will be celebrated on social media and in The Sentinel.
There will be no judging. All participants will be given a ribbon.
The Mifflin County Garden Club asks that participants kindly send a brief email to email@example.com with the address and name(s) of those participating, and the book title used for the display. Photos will be posted online on Dec. 9 and select photos will be printed in The Sentinel at some point before Christmas.
Fiber Festival set for October 30
SPRING MILLS — The Penns Valley Fiber Festival will be an in-person event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, in the Old Gregg School, 106 School St., Spring Mills.
This is the fifth year for the festival, which last year was a virtual event. Admission and parking are free. Masks are required.
The Fiber Festival will feature 14 vendors offering yarn, fleece, knitting and crocheting accessories, fiber crafts and related items. Most of the vendors are fiber farmers in the region.
Fiber and yarn artists have always been plentiful, but during the pandemic there was a dramatic increase in the number of people who learned to knit, crochet, spin and weave. It was a way to learn something new while staying at home. This show will provide the opportunity to see the color and feel the yarn, both of which are important to crafters.
As a way to introduce more people to knitting and crocheting, there will be free beginning classes. If you are interested just bring along yarn, knitting needles for knitting class, and a crochet hook for crochet class.
The first 50 attendees who arrive will receive a goodie bag. Most vendors will be able to accept credit cards but show officials recommend bringing some cash.
