Millerstown park to host ‘Parktoberfest’

MILLERSTOWN — Millerstown Community Park will host ‘Parktoberfest’ from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 23 along the Juniata River.

The park is located at 110 W. Juniata Parkway; all proceeds benefit the community park.

Attendees may expect food, live entertainment, craft vendors, a car meet, a scarecrow contest and many events for children.

Those who attend may bring chairs, set them up in the morning and stay all day; the park will offer “smash burgers” and handcut french fries.

Live entertainment on the amphitheater includes:

¯9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. — Buffalo Mountain Blue Grass

¯11 a.m. – noon — Dixie Darlings dance group

¯1 p.m. – 2 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. — Broken Record band

“Balloon Man” will entertain the children from 9 a.m. until noon when making balloon designs and giving them out to the children.

Children may also paint pumpkins and design their own scarecrows and take both home. The children may participate in the scarecrow contest and attendees will vote for their favorite.

This eventís rain date will be Oct. 30.

PennDOT to host job fair in Juniata County

MIFFLINTOWN — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation invites prospective employees to attend and apply at an Oct. 20 job fair at Juniata County Maintenance Office, 4373 William Penn Highway, Mifflintown.

The job fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will have access to computers during the event.

Applicants may learn about winter job opportunities that PennDOT offers. PennDOT staff will be on hand to help with online applications; attendees are encouraged to bring their resume.

According to a PennDOT press release, PennDOT will conduct on-the-spot interviews for its winter maintenance program and will administer a driving skills test for CDL drivers.

PennDOT is specifically looking for CDL operators, who must have a valid Pennsylvania CDL Class A or B with the Air Brake Restriction (L) lifted.
