Directors discuss mask rule support

JCSD board talks about affirming mask mandate

MIFFLINTOWN — The Juniata County School District Board of Directors on Wednesday discussed the possibility of passing a motion that would affirm its position on the mask wearing policy.

During its September meeting, the board voted to accept the state’s mask mandate in a way that would not require parents to submit a 504 exemption form to allow their child to attend school without a mask.

During the board’s workshop meeting Wednesday, it asked the district’s solicitor whether the vote was taken in the correct fashion, according to Juniata County School District Superintendent Gary Dawson.

During the meeting, Solicitor Scott Etter stated that he would research whether the board should consider an “affirmation vote” to reaffirm the board’s position on the mask issue.
