Local United Way kicks off campaign

2022 goal is set at $450,000

LEWISTOWN — The 2022 United Way campaign kicked off on Wednesday with the annual Day of Caring.

This major volunteer event has been one of the community’s comforting constants for 24 years. Approximately 300 volunteers on 29 teams volunteered their time at community human services agencies, parks, ball fields, townships and playgrounds. Volunteers started their day with breakfast made by the Lewistown Kiwanis Club at Kish Park and the Mifflintown Lions Club at Messiah Lutheran Church. After breakfast, the volunteers put in a day of painting, building and landscaping at 32 sites.

The annual Day of Caring demonstrates community support and helps agencies make improvements with a smaller impact on their budgets.

The goal for the 2022 United Way campaign is set at $450,000. The last few campaigns have seen a decline in giving, but we are hopeful that things will look better this year.

“A goal of $450,000 may sound ambitious but Mifflin and Juniata residents are caring individuals who are quick to lend a helping hand to their friends and neighbors in need,” said Oksana DeArment, executive director of the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata. “Through the local United Way, donors can help our partner agencies assist the entire community by making manageable contributions through payroll deductions or a one-time donation.”

For anyone who is able, we ask that you consider investing in your community this year with a donation that is meaningful to you by giving to the United Way. No amount is too small.

There are several convenient ways to make a tax-deductible donation. Checks payable to United Way of Mifflin-Juniata can be mailed to 13 East Third Street, Lewistown, PA 17044. Credit card donations can be made online at www.mjunitedway.org. Contributions can also be made by texting donate22 to 41444.
