Borough council names three to MCMA board
Police Advisory Committee member added at meeting
LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Borough Council appointed three Mifflin County Municipal Authority members and one Police Advisory Committee member during their regular monthly meeting Monday.
Council members approved past Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown member Mel Parker for the Mifflin County Municipal Authority one-year position, and current members Barry Bargo and Jeff Rocco for three-year and five-year positions, respectively. A council member and the former council president, Venus Shade, opposed voting for the approval of the appointees.
This decision made by the council must gain approval from the Mifflin County Commissioners before the three are seated. Since the creation of MCMA, the commissioners have served as “placeholder” representatives for the borough.
Council also acted to dissolve the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown. MABL remains in existence until closing on a bond issue that transfers the authority’s assets to MCMA. MABL’s board meets Wednesday, and MCMA on Sept. 22. The bond closing tentatively will take place at the end of the month, at which time MABL will exist only on paper until the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding that created MCMA are fully met.
Members of the borough council then approved Jim Tipping for the position on the Police Advisory Committee.
Council also approved:
¯ An ordinance change regarding fining unregistered cars parking in public parking spaces for undetermined amounts of time.
¯ The annual Goose Day 5K run, which takes place in the borough.
¯ A.M.E. cemetery restoration project fundraising, a project undertaken by the Mifflin-Juniata Chamber of Commerce.
Council members meet again at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11.
