LEWISTOWN- Mifflin County Regional Police Department announced on Wednesday afternoon that a new phone scam is active in the area at this time and put out a press release with the information regarding the scam.

According to the release, the scam involves a miniced phone number associated with Pennsylvania’s Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC). During the call, those being targeted are told of unpaid court fines and outstanding fees, following with threats if not paid.

AOPC advised in an offical statement that the agency will never place calls to solicit payment by credit card, gift card, or any other means of electronic funds transfer for any reason via telephone. Likewise, a police department will never place calls to solicit money.
