11th annual Walk for Warmth going virtual for 2021
Event to run from now until Saturday, Feb. 13
LEWISTOWN — Due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic, the 11th annual Walk for Warmth will be held virtually this year.
Between now and Saturday, Feb. 13, you can walk safely for a cause while practicing social distancing. You are encouraged to walk outside and endure the cold temperatures so you can experience what it would be like to live without heat.
The COVID-19 virus has affected everyone — your support is needed more than ever. The economic impact of the pandemic has greater consequences for vulnerable individuals who are forced to make decisions about paying rent on time or paying to heat their home. Energy Bank recipients can now access funds to assist with either of these issues.
All proceeds from the Walk for Warmth support the local Mifflin-Juniata Energy Bank. The Mifflin-Juniata Energy Bank provides heating assistance to families who have been denied Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) benefits due to income ineligibility. Veterans and residents age 60 or older are assisted even if they have received LIHEAP benefits. Those calling the Mifflin-Juniata Energy Bank for assistance will be instructed to first apply for the federal program, LIHEAP, online at www.compass.state.pa.us.
Applications to the Mifflin-Juniata Energy Bank can be made by calling (717) 447-5121.
The United Way of Mifflin-Juniata is the repository for all donations to the Energy Bank. You can support this worthy cause by sending your donation to the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata at 13 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or by making an online donation at www.mjunitedway.org. Please be sure to designate your donation for Walk for Warmth.
